Good parents make ants on a log. Bad parents make them while their kid is asleep. Guess which I am? Hint: it was delicious.

And people complain about British food. What am I looking at here? Peanut butter on celery, topped with raisins?
![]() 04/13/2015 at 18:02 |

I can't believe I have never done this with my kids. They love:
Celery
PB
Raisins
Camping
bugs.
I AM a bad dad.
![]() 04/13/2015 at 18:05 |

Pretty much. Parents usually make it for kindergarten snacks, at least they did when I was a kid.

I love celery and pb, but have never put raisins on them. It sounds delicious!
![]() 04/13/2015 at 18:06 |

I'm gonna have to do it, aren't I? You wait right here...
![]() 04/13/2015 at 18:07 |

It is delicious, as it combines three of natures best items to eat, raisins, celery, and peanuts (a form of it).
I think it hadn't been too popular nowadays cuz of peanut allergies. Which is very real and dangerous, but the other kids miss out on the good stuff! Like this!
![]() 04/13/2015 at 18:08 |

you ate that shit?
Raisins - Maybe
Peanut Butter - only good with chocolate
Celery - All of the nopes
![]() 04/13/2015 at 18:09 |

Oh I've had them, I've just never thought to make them with the kids. They would love it.
![]() 04/13/2015 at 18:11 |

Celery is only used for Bloody Marys, Goulash and Chili in my household.
![]() 04/13/2015 at 18:11 |

It is. I'm surprise this isn't more popular. Maybe it's a Midwestern thing?
![]() 04/13/2015 at 18:12 |

That could be it.
![]() 04/13/2015 at 18:13 |

Celery?
Replace Celery with bread, and i'll be at your door straightaway.
![]() 04/13/2015 at 18:15 |

That's a great snack, but hold the ants, please. PB and celery I'll do, but I don't get the raisins.
![]() 04/13/2015 at 18:15 |

TIL, judging by the comments, this isn't a well know thing. Which is mind boggling to me.
![]() 04/13/2015 at 18:16 |

I've made them for little man, unfortunately little girl isn't old enough for PB yet.
![]() 04/13/2015 at 18:18 |

OK, I'm not doing it right.
I have no celery, so the next loggiest vegetable I had was a carrot.
I'm going to go now and make some more.
![]() 04/13/2015 at 18:19 |

Just wanna be sure, those aren't ants right? :p
![]() 04/13/2015 at 18:19 |

I'm quickly learning that celery is an acquired taste, lol.
![]() 04/13/2015 at 18:21 |

I one day told mybeufe I wsnted ants on a log, the next day she got done celery. Which is nice because she doesn't like it, which means more for me!
![]() 04/13/2015 at 18:24 |

but, but, it's nature candy! :). Raisins are an acquired taste I think. You just got to enjoy them for what they are, shriveled up grapes with an awkward flavor, :).
![]() 04/13/2015 at 18:25 |
|
Same here. I thought this was well known.
![]() 04/13/2015 at 18:26 |
|
Ha, so you liked it?
![]() 04/13/2015 at 18:26 |

Good on you for showing the little ones how to eat proper food that dosent come in a wrapper. Never heard of these before but the kids will be eating them in a couple of days, thanks
![]() 04/13/2015 at 18:28 |

The first round was good. After the second round I'm feeling a bit ill. Still considering a third.
![]() 04/13/2015 at 18:28 |

If they were I'd have more protein. If they were red ants, you could say the flavor has a 'bite', :).
![]() 04/13/2015 at 18:29 |

Graham crackers work well too, IMO. Though you got to try the celery version eventually, :).
![]() 04/13/2015 at 18:30 |
|
I promise I will :)
![]() 04/13/2015 at 18:32 |

I like raisins well enough, but I'm not getting the combination. I guess I'll have to try it.
![]() 04/13/2015 at 18:33 |

Ha, it's more of the wife is a "health -minded" person, which means barely anything is bought prepackaged. So I need to get creative to survive. Usually I just eat my daughters snack food, :). Mmhmm, graham crackers with peanut butter...
![]() 04/13/2015 at 18:36 |
|
It is a interesting combo. celery is mostly water, the peanut butter gives a creamy peanut taste, and the raisins are just there. But it's something that needs to be tried, at least one, IMO.
I load the raisins on mine, because I'm a glutton (hooray!). traditionally it's just a raisin every inch or so.
![]() 04/13/2015 at 18:37 |
|
Yeah, I think carrots are only good with ranch...or in the garbage, :).
![]() 04/13/2015 at 18:41 |

Crunchy or smooth? I'm a dyed-in-the-wool crunchy peanut butter guy.
![]() 04/13/2015 at 18:43 |
|
Ha! That reads like you've had a few Bloody Marys.

I hear ya. I turned 40 couple of years ago and went and had a medical check up. Cholesterol was great as was all other things, wife puts me on a health kick because 40. I go have a test the next year and my cholesterol was dangerously high, to the point of needing medication to sort it out if it stayed high. I went back to slighty less healthy foods and cholesterol is good again a year on!
Any luck with the mower?
![]() 04/13/2015 at 18:45 |

Crunchy should work, as the celery has a nice crunch. We only have smooth PB because it doubles as a treat for the dog (no double dipping!...,except me). We also have white chocolate PB and dark chocolate PB (not for dog). Still, the original PB is the best. Choosy moms choose Jif...for a good reason, :).

It is a Midwest thing. I remember getting "bumps on a log" when I was a kid. That stuff was so hard to trade off..
![]() 04/13/2015 at 18:51 |
|
I swear to drunk I'm not God.
** stupid autocorrect....
![]() 04/13/2015 at 18:53 |

Worse parents call it shit on a log. I lived these growing up! Haven't had then in ages tough. Great idea!
![]() 04/13/2015 at 18:53 |

Haha, school lunches, am I right?
![]() 04/13/2015 at 19:07 |

Haven't got to it yet. I worked a 8.5 hr shift today, and went to a dentist appointment, plus it rained.
My wife tends to makes excellent food, it's just the snacking that gets difficult. Right now I'm finishing up out last root beer ( my mom bought it when she visited). Since my wife is anti-pop/soda, I probably won't get another until I can sneak it, :).
![]() 04/13/2015 at 19:12 |

Right as rain!
![]() 04/13/2015 at 19:12 |

Thanks!
![]() 04/13/2015 at 19:15 |

Did you ever have those boat shaped pizzas? lol.
![]() 04/13/2015 at 19:18 |

I used to love raisins as a child. Now I hate them. Am I dead inside?
![]() 04/13/2015 at 19:20 |

Only when Dad tried making his own Pizza. I don't think it was on purpose either..
![]() 04/13/2015 at 19:22 |
|
Possibly. Have you checked your pulse lately?
![]() 04/13/2015 at 19:47 |

Ok, hope you can get it sorted out. And smuggle in some more contraband.
![]() 04/13/2015 at 19:55 |

I disagree with the peanut butter. I will eat it straight off a spoon its so damn good.
![]() 04/13/2015 at 19:59 |

Totally will, I need carbonated drinks, :)
![]() 04/13/2015 at 20:01 |

mmmm, bubbles
![]() 04/14/2015 at 00:30 |
|
You sound like my kids... I keep telling them about this magical snack and they keep making "yuck" faces.
![]() 04/14/2015 at 00:33 |
|
Tasty!
I'm glad that I am not the only person in the world who grew up with these. The first time I mentioned ants on a log to my wife, I think she thought I was just making stuff up.
![]() 04/14/2015 at 00:36 |

It's important that the raisins be lined up neatly, single-file, like real ants. It's much more realistic this way.
![]() 04/14/2015 at 08:50 |

It believe it's mostly a Midwest thing, as a lot it people have never heard of it here.

Well I grew up in Alberta, Canada so it's an international phenomenon!
